O
[/b]ctober walked towards the garrage, getting out her keys. She unlocked the door to her father's Lexis and slid into the driver's seat. The leather felt cold on her skin, even though it was summer. The garage was air-conditioned. Her whole house was, and for that she was thankful. October put the keys in the ignition, turning them slowly as if not to make a noise. She didn't know why she was sneaking around, her Dad was out of town on business. October's father was a famous photographer. I guess you could say that they were fairly well off. That was putting it mildly. October's father was an extremely wealthy man. October herself was well on her way to becoming quite well known in the photography world (and not just because of who her dad was). She was finally getting a little recognition (and actually making some money), something that many amature could only dream about. It was a hard business to get into. Sure, she had her father to thank for getting her name out there, but as far as she was concerned, she was making because of her talent. And it was true, she was very talented. October pushed the button with opened the garage door, and slowly pulled the car out into California heat. She rolled down the window, finally getting comfortable in her surroundings. This was her dad's car, and if she even so much as nicked it he'd kill her. Not that she really would, she was an excellent driver, despite her lack of a car. Her dad kept telling her he'd give her one of his, but she always declined. Her dad was all about the excess, where as October was not. It was one of the only things they didn't see eye to eye on. October liked to sort of just blend into the crowd. She liked things simple, and clean. None of this 'more than one car, super big house, wide screen tv' shit. She didn't need it. Her dad on the other hand love to be seen. He wanted everyone to know exactly who he was, and respect that. He wasn't really stuck up or anything, but he liked respect to be given where it was earned, and he had earned a lot of it in his time. October looked out the driver-side window quickly before turning her eyes back to the road. She loved the sun, and the fresh, salty air of LA. She wasn't sure where she was going, but some how she found her way at the beach. Luckily she had brought her camera (I mean, when did she not have it?). October parked the car in the parking lot and got out, shaking out her arms a bit. She had been driving for what seemed like forever. She lifted her camera from the passenger seat, and put the strap over her shoulder, like a shoulder bag, and grabbed her bag from the floor. October locked the car up, setting the alarm and slipped her keys into her bag. October looked at the ground as she walked, Sand was fairly hard to walk in. October walked across the beach until she found a good spot, and sat down on a log. She positioned herself looking towards the water, though she was actually more of a people photographer. It didn't really matter though, taking pictures of people you don't know is just creepy, and usually warranted some sort of law-suit. October kicked off her flip flops, pushing her bare feet into the sand. She put the strap around her neck and took the lens cap off her camera and lifted it up, looking through the view finder. She snapped a few shots before getting bored. Hey, you could only take so many shots of a body of water at a time. It's not like it changes every second, not to mention the fact that she was generally not s nature photographer. October turned her head slightly, looking through the view finder at all the people. It sort of depressed her that she couldn't take any pictures of these people. Sure, no one would know, but she'd feel strange doing it. October continued to look around, before something caught her eye. She looked through the view finder at the familiar face. She pulled the camera away from her, letting it hang limp around her neck. She readjusted her focus on the brunette standing not too far away. Was that Ethan? Maybe? What was he doing in LA? She looked closer, squinting her eyes. It had to be him. It didn't look like he had spotted her yet. Maybe she could sneak up on him? She stood, slipping her flip flops back on and grabbed her bag. It felt like butterfly had completely filled up her stomach as she walked towards him. She approached quietly, not that it really mattered. There were tons of people at the beach, being loud and obnoxious. He probably wouldn't have heard her even if she had tried to make a lot of noise. He finally spotted her as she stepped closer “ Hey Ethan. What are you doing in LA?” she asked with a small grin. ethan had to get out. he just had to get out of that damn house. it was no secret that casey and himself didn't get along, but today the girl had a hangover or whatever and was being extra hormonal, but only because he had taken the last of the advil. sick of her bitching and whining and complaining, ethan packed up a few things, got holly dressed, and kissed brooke goodbye; of course, informing her of where he was taking holly out to. and with that all being said and done, he was on his way to the beach in los angeles. holly fell asleep during the first ten minutes of the car ride, making most the trip easy for ethan to deal with. he played quiet music, making sure not to wake up his sleeping daughter. even though it'd been over half a year since ethan had been told about holly, but it was still really odd to him. he was a dad... how could he have been so stupid not to wear a condom?
he had worn a condom with october, right? ethan thought for a moment, before nodding. yes, he had. he sighed with slight relief, but that relief was short-lived. october. she lived in l.a., didn't she? "fuck." ethan muttered under his breath, almost considering turning around and going back home. maybe he could just take holly to a nice park for the day. but when ethan realized that they were already three-fourths of the commute to los angeles, he figured there was no turning back now. he hadn't driven all this way for nothing. no, his daughter and himself were going to spend a nice day at the beach. ethan wasn't backing out of that. what would he say to brooke when he got home? "oh, yeah, sorry, i was afraid of running into my ex." ...no. that seemed wrong. besides, why should he be scared of running into october? they were still friends, right? the fact that the odds of him actually running into october were slim eased his mind.
soon enough, ethan was pulling into a parking lot near the beach. holly wasn't quite awake yet, but he was sure she would be soon. she'd been napping for quite a while. ethan got out of the car, stretching for a minute. he'd been driving for a while, and his legs were slightly sore. he got the bag he'd packed with towels and some food, throwing it over his shoulder. ethan rubbed his eyes, shaking some hair out of the way as he unhooked holly from her carseat and held her. the small girl stirred, but didn't wake. and with that, ethan headed out to the sands and waters of the beach. holly woke up fully as he walked, blinking furiously against the bright sun. "daddy, where are we?" she asked quietly, frowning at him. "we're at the beach." he said in reply, smiling and kissing the side of her head. ethan had been there for a couple hours, just enjoying the sun and playing in the sand with holly... but that's when he saw her. the platinum blond hair and small stature that he knew too well.
and as she headed his way, what was ethan supposed to do? turn his head away and ignore her? no. if he'd wanted to, he couldn't. so, instead, he smiled in her direction and watched her approach him. he stood up, biting down on his lip. holly was still playing in the sand next to him, giggling and laughing as if she was the happiest girl on the planet. ethan just watched october, listening to her talk and ask him what he was doing in los angeles. "hey... october." ethan greeted the girl, a small smile forming on his lips. "i, uhm... i'm just here with... holly." he said, biting down on his bottom lip again. holly looked up at him when she heard her name, giggling again. "daddy, look at the hole." she said, pointing at the hole she'd dug in the sand and giggling. "it's a... pretty big hole, holly." he remarked, smiling as he watched her. his gaze switched back to october. he'd never told her he was a dad. he'd never told her he had a daughter, and a new girlfriend.

O
[/b]ctober smiled as he answered her. She was nervous. Very nervous actually, but she didn't want to let that show. She just had to be her usual confident self. This was Ethan for Christ's sake, it couldn't be that hard. It was nice to see him. It would be a lie to say she wasn't still crazy about him. It's not like she was going to do anything about it, she had a life now. But seeing him sure did stir things up. “ Daddy, look at the hole” October looked down at the small child. Did she just say what she thought she said? This was Ethan's kid? That was impossible. The child couldn't be less than two years old. Tour had ended less then a year ago. If this was Ethan's kid then she would have had to been born long before tour even started. October looked back at Ethan. She cleared her throat. Had Ethan just hid this not-so-small detail from her the whole time they had known each other? How could he? That was probably one of the worst things you could do to a person. October narrowed her eyes at Ethan. She didn't know whether to address the issue or not. Not right now she decided, as there was a child present. But then, what should she say to him. She was speechless, dumbfounded. What do you say to that? October decided to pretty much overlook if, for now. Instead she turned her attention back down to the child sitting at Ethan's feet. October waves a little “ Hello,” she greeted softly “ i-I'm October...” She smiled meekly. There were very few moments when October felt shy. Right now was one of them, though she didn't know why. Honestly, October should have been angry. She had a right to be. Right? He had kept this monumentally huge thing away from her. October looked back up at Ethan, vetoing her previous decision to keep her mouth shut. “ You have a kid?!” She whispered in a harsh tone. She was sure to only speak loud enough for Ethan to hear, she didn't want to startle Holly. October wasn't one for fighting, or confrontation, she never had been. But this was Ethan, and she figured that she had enough reason to freak out. Usually when she was pissed off at someone she just ignored them. But there was no ignoring him now. “ How could you not have told me?!” she asked in the same tone. She sighed. She still couldn't wrap her mind around it. Seriously, what the hell? October looked around. It seemed that no one had spotted the musician yet, which was a good thing. “ I thought you lived in Texas?” she asked after a moment, changing the subject. What WAS Ethan doing in LA? What had happened since the end of tour? It had only been about eight months, but still a lot could happen she supposed. Nothing this drastic had really happened to October though. Infact, October's life was seeming pretty boring right about now, compared to Ethan's. What had October done in that eight months? She'd gone back to school. She was working more, which was awesome, but still not really up to par. ethan had known he would run into october. sure, the chances had been extremely slim but he'd just had this feeling deep down in his gut that she would show up sometime. however, as he'd played in the sand and along the shore with holly, he kept that worry far out of his mind. it wasn't that him and october weren't friends. well, he didn't think they weren't anyway. he'd definitely consider october a friend. they'd grown apart since the tour had ended, him going back to texas and her back to sunny california. he obviously regretted not keeping touch, but everything had been so hectic the past few months since he'd found out he had a kid. from working to daycare and everything else that was happening, ethan had felt himself grow out of touch with just about everything out in the real world outside of his daughter and girlfriend. the shock hadn't actually gone away until about two months ago. no, ethan had had to spend a good three or four months with his daughter and new girlfriend to realize that he wasn't dreaming. not to say that he wished he was dreaming. he had, at first, but now he was glad he had a kid of his own. he was young, and stupid, but it had brought out a slightly softer side in him, though he was still stubborn about talking about his problems. instead, he listened to brooke's. yes, ethan definitely regretted not keeping october in the loop.
he watched as holly stared at october, and october introduced herself to the small girl. holly waved to the blond, giggling. "hi! i'm howwy." she said, grinning. she turned her attention back to the sand, beginning to push the small pile of the grainy stuff to fill the hole she'd made. ethan watched her for a moment, before looking back at october. he was just about to speak when october spoke first. her voice was a cold whisper, and ethan tried his hardest to keep his cool and explain to her calmly. but her tone hurt him. his hands clenched into fists for a few moments, but as her tone relaxed, so did he. ethan bit down on his lip, brushing some hair out of his eyes. when he finally spoke, his voice was calm and cool, and quieter than normal so holly wouldn't overhear. "yeah... i do... but listen, october, just listen for a second." he said, reaching out to put his hands on her shoulders to try and calm her down. he didn't want her to freak out, and he definitely didn't want her mad at him. but it was probably inevitable now, he'd screwed up bigtime by not telling her almost as soon as he himself had found out the news. "i didn't tell you because i didn't know... okay, listen. here's the story. a couple years ago, i was in las vegas for a friend's birthday." ethan paused, shrugging. his hands dropped from october's shoulders, now shoving down into his pockets. "we got drunk, and i met a girl. we hooked up, and i guess i, uh... forgot protection. when the weekend was over, we went our seperate ways."
ethan bit down on his lip. "i never saw her again. at least, not until a few months ago. i was visiting vegas just for the hell of it, and i ran into her. we started talking, and she finally told me about holly. so... i packed up my life in texas and moved to vegas to help her take care of her." ethan shrugged again, sighing. "i know i should've called... i should've told you and i'm sorry. i understand if you're mad." he added in, frowning slightly. of course he didn't want october to be mad at him, but she had every right to be and it wouldn't surprise him if she turned and walked away and then never spoke to him again.

October grinned. Holly huh? She sure was a cute kid. Then she looked back towards Ethan. She really didn't want to listen to him. Definitely not. She sort of wished she could just walk away now. She shrugged though. What did she have to lose, listening to him? He could have a valid point. She highly doubted it though. He never had a valid point. October crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow “You have ten seconds”she stated sternly. She listened intently as he explained the situation. She nodded slowly as he finished up. She supposed it was sort of a valid point. Drunk Ethan was stupid, and forgetting protection seemed like something he would do. She looked away for a moment. “I should have called... I should have told you and I'm sorry... I understand if your mad..” October sighed. She was sort of mad. “YOU SHOULD HAVE CALLED! YOU SHOULD HAVE CALLED RIGHT AWAY!” she said, hitting him in the arm. “No, scratch that. You never should have stopped calling” she mumbled. But it was already way to late to talk about that. She assumed that Ethan was probably seeing the mother of this child. Honestly, it still sort of broke her heart, but nothing she couldn't handle. She'd get over it sooner or later. “You should have told me right away, Ethan” October said, re-crossing her arms. Was she really in this situation again? The situation of telling Ethan what friends should and should not do. Friends SHOULD tell friends right away when they discover that they have a long lost child. Not, you know, keep it a secret until the very last moment, then pretend innocence. But October knew Ethan all too well. She knew he didn't like talking about his problems with anyone. He just wasn't trusting like that. She would have liked the think that he was trusting enough with her. I guess not. Still, she couldn't be that mad at him.
October sighed, feeling slightly defeated and worn out from the shock of all this. “Listen. Do you wanna talk about this somewhere else?” she asked. “My house isn't too far from here. I'll make you guys dinner” she offered with a small smile. October was a great cook. Unfortunately for Ethan, October only cooked vegan food. October didn't eat any meat or dairy, she hadn't her whole life. Her dad was vegan too. It was something her mom always insisted on, that they would raise their children (or child as it turned out) vegan. October's dad had always been extremely over protective, October was all he had left. October didn't mind much. She wasn't an overly rebellious child. She never went through that faze. If her dad didn't let her do something she figured it was better to just go along with it an move on then to stir things up. After all, October was close with her dad. Currently he was in Indonesia for a photoshoot. If he were in town there would have been no way October would invite Ethan over. Her dad had a thing with her and boys. Even though she was turning twenty in December, her dad still wasn't too stoked on the idea of her dating. She figured he'd get used to it... eventually.
